NEW THINGS as of August 27th to 31st

I hate going so long without an update, I really do.. So I figured i’d do a bit of a mashup of what i’ve done this week.

I set up my ring light and started playing around with it. It’s amazing how even the lighting is!

I couldn’t resist snapping this photo of my beautiful Buddy Boy. He is so nice!

I made a new piece of art. I wish my liquitex pens weren’t so streaky. I may have to do some additional purple layers on the background…. of course, i’m my own worst critic.

Made a video about new packaging for Neal Brothers! It’s one of my interests.

#MyAutism

#MyAutism.jpg

There’s a lot of Anti-Vaxxers & people who believe that autism should be eradicated.

Because of a joint effort from all the #actuallyautistic allies, lead in part by International Badass Activists @badassactivist We were able to successfully take over the #endautismnow hashtag that is promoting a book called “how to end the autism epidemic” by JB Handley & promoted ignorantly by Jenny McCarthy, they’ve come up with a new hashtag, #MyAutism.

Now, I believe this gives me a chance to talk about my autism and who I am as an individual, instead of seeing a ridiculous amount of nonsense. I hope more of us take this opportunity to show the world we belong here and we do not need to be wiped off the planet.

My experience at Langley Arts Alive as an Autistic Artist

Arts Alive 3rd Graphic

I want to start out this post by thanking Langley’s own Randy Caine, founder of Hempyz for sponsoring me by giving me the opportunity to have a booth to showcase my art and my even bigger message about being Autistic.

I got dropped off at around 8:05 and got some great help setting up the tent, table and chairs (thanks to Randy again) and then I began setting my art up . Truth be told, I have little experience (other then those two times I set up outside Arts off Main) but I focused and got myself motivated.

Nothing was priced yet. I grabbed some spiky-oval type fluorescent paper cut outs I had got from Dollarama and used some washi (rice paper tape) that was fairly low tack and folded little circles that I affixed to the corner of some of my pieces. Depending on how the art was set up, my placement varied. I had purchased them ages ago and was pleased to actually use something I bought! (Artists and crafters know this can be a rare occurrence!!)

I honestly don’t know why i’m holding my wrist in this shot, I think it was my nerves getting the best of me.

I reorganized my table several times. I did sell a few small items, magnets being the most popular. I’m not sure if i’ll want to do this kind of thing again for a few reasons but if I do I would focus more on small 5.00 items like the magnets–a proven seller. They seem to be a way to get people to display my art in the easiest way possible, displayed on their fridge!

I felt lucky to have started the conversation about Autism by having my banner up and my information signs.

If anything my sign on the left would stop people as they were walking by. I feel like I met some incredible individuals by really putting myself out there. Some of the connections I made were absolutely invaluable. Of course, with all that positivity I did hear some ones’ negative comments to their spouse while walking by, but I had to try to breathe and relax.

Another highlight was meeting my Autistic inspiration Amythest Schaber. They are responsible for making informative and insightful videos and blog posts that help educate those who are neurotypical and even those on the spectrum. I believe everyone would benefit from spending time watching the videos.

Cats were the most popular, I SHOULD HAVE FIGURED! I’m not the only Cat-obsessed weird individual out there, I suppose.

Nothing will stop me from making Art. I will NEVER stop being Autistic.

#EndAutismNow? More like #LoveAutismNow

Today, I stumbled upon a video shared by Eve of International Badass Activists. It was Jenny McCarthy promoting a hateful book and spreading the idea of #endautismnow on September 20th, the release of the book.

Transcript of her video:
“Hey Guys, Jenny McCarthy here. I’m back! With my 2nd call to action.

1st off, thanks you so much for coming in droves to support my 1st call to action: Which was to pre buy jb handleys book, how to end the autism epidemic.

The power we have when we all come together with common goals is immeasurable! And what better common goals than to bring us together then the health, the safety, the love of our kids AND wanting to prevent this from happening to future families.

The more time passes the more difficult it is for us to tell our stories and it’s only going to become more difficult.
SO WE MUST ACT NOW, which leads to our next mission, SEPTEMBER 20TH IS THE date of the book release and we want to see hundreds of you at bookstores across the country, where we will facebook live holding up copies of this book

The book that will reveal the truth behind the autism epidemic and most importantly, help end the autism epidemic.

Now this is how we can make it happen:
There’s a page I called, that it started, hashtag ENDAUTISMNOW
This will be an ambassador sign up page and what i need from ambassadors will be to represent your city and bookstore along with creating a facebook page so people in your city know where to go and once you’re accepted in the group, i will be filling you in with more details, now the goal again is to reach out to as many people as possible in your area to pre-buy the book, “how to end the autism epidemic” and then gather as many people as possible to that bookstore on september 20th and we will all facebook live from hundreds of stores across the country. They might have silenced many of our kids, but they ain’t gonna silence us. The groundbreaking information in jb handleys book could lead to the end of the autism epidemic. But that’s only the first step! It’s up to us, we’ve got to come together, unite and make some noise! Kim Kardashians’ ass didn’t really break the internet, but we can! Will you join me? Please send a request to the facebook page, hashtag endautismnow to be part of this massive event to help end the autism epidemic.
Thank you so much
#ENDAUTISMNOW”

Here’s my response. I really hope you have a chance to watch and interact with me.

New Hair, New Art!

I saw my amazing hairdresser, Shimona Henry at East Vanity Parlour once again. She gave me this wickedly cool shag with an incredible undercut. I love having something new that really reflects my personality! I can always trust her for good conversation and taking my feedback in to play when she creates such epic styles and cuts.

Arts alive is in SIXTEEN DAYS and I am trying to work away at having enough art to sell. Yikes. I think if I show up with ANYTHING then that’s definitely better then nothing, right?

DjkTGn-UYAAVIgh

I just completed this piece of art last night. I absolutely am feeling this “house” vibe lately. I used to draw more animals but it just hasn’t happened lately!

How’s your summer going? I have taste tests and other videos to create soon. I’m working on it – i swear, i’m still here!
