Socially Inept.

There are plenty of us who are able to express ourselves and plenty who can not. I always hope when I share my stories that I am able to speak from deep within. It’s incredibly humbling when I receive messages of support.

To know that there are people out there who find what I say relatable and comforting is wonderful.

With everything that has been going on in the Autistic community, primarily those who have chosen to speak for us/at us without being Autistic, I feel that much more compelled to share the experiences that have shaped me.

I feel fragile and lonely at times. I wear my heart on my sleeve and I am still growing, changing and evolving. I realize that the sentiment “be kind” can be so much more. Hold the door open, say hi to someone! Maybe even practice random acts of kindness? The simplest acknowledgement can really brighten a human’s day.

Love,

Margaux

Art, my passion!

Creating videos is something i’ve grown to love. I wanted an opportunity to showcase some of my favourite art i’ve made. It would mean a whole lot to me if you could watch this video!

Hollow Twin

You never truly know the pain of losing someone who has been inspirational in your life until you no longer have the privilege of having them around. I believe that even after they have passed on, they are still there.

I lost my Step-Dad earlier this year, 2017 and it was difficult to see someone who was strong, bold, intellectual and had such a unique presence diminish so fast.

My Sister, Becky and her band mate Emmalee are the Vancouver duo known as Hollow Twin. The emotion gives me goosebumps. Their music is truly in a genre of its own.

The song “The Valley” is about the Chilliwack River Valley, the place where my Mum and Step-Dad spent many of their days together.

PlanetBox Rover Review!

Thank you PlanetBox for sending me this product in exchange for my very honest review.

This is the Rover model, It’s a stainless steel bento-style lunchbox which amps up your creativity and can definitely promote the healthiest lunches. Perfect for Adults & Kids alike. I am in a childfree household but I could see my Niece and Nephew loving this for School. You have your choice of many different magnet designs to excite, create fun and personalization. There are two “dippers” which can hold dips, sauces, fruit and much, much more!

I opted to create a delicious meal full of produce, crackers, cheese and cookies! The possibilities are truly “sky-high”. Without the magnets, the box can be hand washed or put in the dishwasher.

You can also get your choice of a variety of lunch bags which perfectly fit your PlanetBox. There’s room for an ice pack, utensils, a drink and a pocket in the front for napkins or even more food.

#MyFujifilm #XA3

I was SO excited when Fujifilm agreed to send me this camera to review. The quality of images is super fantastic and it makes photography easy and accessible for all!

I’m so impressed. I couldn’t believe the kind of images I was able to capture and the fact I didn’t have to fumble around with the settings. I still need to go through the manual and read it over.

THANK YOU FUJIFILM for providing me with this camera in a complimentary fashion.

Stand with us. #BoycottToSiri

The Autistic community and individuals alike have a hard enough time as it is. We struggle in areas, and we excel in other ways. One thing that is important is to have the unwavering support of everyone around us, including our parents.

It was brought to my attention on Twitter that a book existed: “To Siri with Love”, by an author named Judith Newman. In this book she chronicles her neurotypical views about being a Mother to her autistic son Gus.

Personally, I wouldn’t be at all comfortable with someone else telling my story. Regardless of what the relationship was. That’s just not okay with me.

A lot of things are terribly wrong with this book: The way she refers to an incredibly stellar autism advocate: Amythest Schaber  (“Manic Pixie Dream Girl”) is incredibly demeaning and is generally used to describe a character that only exists for the straight male protagonist in video games, etc.

There are also mentions of Eugenics where the author states she would like to get power of attorney, when her son is old enough, to have a vasectomy performed on him.

That’s honestly not all of it – but I urge you to visit twitter and search #BoycottToSiri

Educate and learn. Become an ally. Stand with US not against us.

It’s my story to tell and NO ONE ELSE.

My Experience at Famoso!

It’s not often that I find a restaurant that can truly cater to my specific dietary needs or naturally picky nature. I also get easily bothered by bright lighting, closed spaces, tables that feel like they are in the middle of the room and noisy play areas.

This was my third visit to Famoso Morgan Crossing, located in South Surrey, British Columbia Canada. It’s always been an absolute delight. The management and staff make it a point to provide outstanding customer service and delicious food, every single time.

The location has large windows and feels very open, the lighting is absolutely soft and almost relaxing. The booths are very comfortable.

We started our meal with an oven roasted flatbread with tzatziki and hummus. It was packed with flavour and incredibly fresh.

I ordered a Margherita Pizza but omitted a few ingredients and replaced it with roasted garlic! Garlic is definitely one of my favourite flavours. The Pizza was baked to perfection. My boyfriend, Justin ordered the Spicy Thai Pizza and was incredibly impressed with the taste and quality of toppings.

We ended our meal with a scoop of gelato each. So rich and creamy. I’ve had the Nutella Pizza before and I have to say that it’s also an excellent choice for dessert.

It’s a great place for a date, a family outing or a birthday party. I’ve been there for all 3 and I always leave with a smile on my face, a full belly and good memories. The prices are incredibly reasonable too.

Thank you Famoso for having us, we had such a great time!

The importance of expression

I can feel incredibly trapped and caged when I am unable to express myself. Whether it’s art, cooking, writing or human interaction– my soul desperately cries out for the opportunity. I am a very visual person. I like to see what is going on in front of me. I engage, I live in colour. I like to dress up, I like to provide advice and talk to all kinds of different people, preferably without negative consequences. Sometimes the foreboding feeling of something negative to follow is enviable.

These are pieces of me, pieces of my soul and I will always look back on how many opportunities my expression has created for me. I want to connect with artists, writers and musicians. If you’re reading this–feel free to reach out!

So much more to come.
